We received more than 60 very creative answers from musicians and sound engineers all over the world. They all showed that there are millions of possibilities of using ZYLIA microphone. It is mind-blowing!
It was very challenging to pick the winner. We decided to select following persons:

I Prize - Derek Gregoire

I need ZYLIA because it is the most innovative equipment in the market. The cost to record in a studio is debilitating for a band starting out; to say the least. My band has a positive motivational message that needs to be heard, and winning a ZYLIA to help my band do that would be a dream come true. When I was 18 my grandfather passed away, and left behind enough money for me to buy a guitar, and pursue my dream. It has been 7 years since then, and I've finally put together the band that can make that dream come true. I believe in our ability to make a difference; not just in the music world, but world-wide. I believe in ZYLIA's ability to take my band places every band dreams to be, and it would be an honour If you'd believe in me.

Derek is an acoustic artist from Gowanda, NY. His band - Creating a Sinner.

II Prize - David

We absolutely need the ZYLIA Portable Recording Studio because our original group plays in a modern configuration of the old-time bluegrass set-up. In other words, we stand in a circle around one mic playing acoustic stringed instruments. The ZYLIA WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THIS!!! In mean, really, what better use could there be?? In our case we don’t have a fiddle, but have a pedal steel guitar, which is amplified on its own and picked up by the central mic. We play original compositions with five-piece band including acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and pedal steel guitar, and of course lots of vocal harmonies.
We have been recording our original works live (i.e. no overdubs), and typically record continuously without stopping the recording between pieces. We have experimented with a few different micing techniques, and have currently settled on the M/S (middle side) technique using a bi-directional mic (sides) + cardioid (middle) with a decoding matrix at the mixer. This results in Left/Center/Right channels. The MS mic set up set gives us a nice stereo image, but we struggle with getting a perfect balance between the vocals and the guitar/mando/banjo. For instance if the vocalist moves closer to the mic, the guitar/mando/banjo unfortunately gets louder as well as the vocal. Of course only three channels doesn't give us any “fine-tuning” ability in the mix, if you can call it that. Clearly we desperately need the ZYLIA. Please send our prize without delay!
Another reason (as if another good reason were required) is that we are currently composing a “folk opera” with expanded acoustic stringed instrumentation including guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele (multiple sizes), bass, pedal steel and melodica to name a few. The work will culminate in a recording and performances.
Lastly, my professional work is in acoustic consulting, including investigations of subjective sound quality. I’m on your mailing list as North Orbit Acoustic Labs. As part of our work, we prepare recordings of products or situations and present them to listening juries for evaluation. The ZYLIA technique looks like it may be a fit for creating certain multiple source recordings that could be manipulated (mixed) for various subjective rating applications. We have traditionally used binaural techniques for recording using a head and torso simulator (HATS), but of course there’s no mixing that after the fact.

III Prize - Ivan Chiarelli

As a composer, producer, and performer of experimental and electro-acoustic music, I'm constantly looking for gear options that will allow me to make the most of completely different settings. I often have to record impromptu jam sessions with my quartet. Also, I'm always making environmental field recordings to capture new sounds to use in my music, or recording peculiar sound objects that I find in my trips. Before ZYLIA, there was no single microphone that could do all this, and quality would sometimes have to be sacrificed to practicality. With ZYLIA, I'll be able to solve all my recording needs, no matter what, no matter where.
Thank you so much for your creativity:-)
